One dead, several wounded and a woman kidnapped in attack on a temple in Haiti

At least one person died, several were injured and a woman was abducted after a group of heavily armed men attacked a Protestant church in Port-au-Prince during a church service on Sunday.

Church deacon Sylner Lafaille was killed and his wife was kidnapped, local media reported in the Haitian capital.

The command sowed terror this Sunday in the First Baptist Church of Port-au-Prince when it celebrated its first service. The temple is located a few kilometers from the National Palace.

It is not the first place of worship to be attacked by armed gangs acting with impunity. Last April, a pastor and three of his followers were kidnapped in the middle of a service that was broadcast live on social media.

In their homes, in churches, in schools and on the streets, Haitians are not safe from the robberies, rapes and kidnappings that have plagued the country since the end of 2019.

More than a dozen people were kidnapped in the Port-au-Prince region by armed bandits who have held the area hostage for several months.

According to the Je Klere Foundation, at least 150 armed groups control the country, while the Police seem powerless to impose order.

The Caribbean country is going through a serious crisis in practically all orders, aggravated by the assassination of President Jovenel Moise on July 7 and the August 14 earthquake in the southern region, which caused more than 2,000 deaths and destroyed tens of thousands. household.
