A woman died after being swept away by a wave at the Etang-Salé chasm shortly before 8 a.m. A man who was with her was seriously injured.
An accident that occurs while a vigilance waves reinforced submersion is in effect from Pointe des Aigrettes to Pointe de la Table.
“Two victims are unfortunately to be deplored this morning, one died and the other is in a state of absolute emergency. They were swept away by the waves at Etang Salé, after crossing a perimeter prohibited by municipal decree”, indicates the prefecture by means of a press release. The prefect of Reunion renews his call for the greatest caution throughout the duration of the alert: “Do not go to sea, stay away from the coast and do not take any risks to take photos or videos of the waves”.
The road was closed to traffic.

“On the RN1A at Saint Leu and the Etang Salé, following the strong swell, the road is completely closed to traffic in both directions between the intersection RD11 and the Etang Salé roundabout.
A diversion is set up by the RN1 Route des Tamarins.
