Fans of selfies, Oppo may have the smartphone for you. The Chinese brand lifts the veil on the Oppo Reno 7, a smartphone it considers “the portrait specialist”.
This terminal, resolutely entry-level, is not really the successor of the Oppo Reno 6rather a delicacy, only marketed online, while waiting for the next mid-range smartphone from Oppo, at the start of the school year.
Like its predecessor, with a “sublime” design for our late Nicolas Lellouche, the Reno 7 surprises at first glance, especially in its version “twilight orange” (sic).
The rear face, in fiberglass leather (re sic) gives it a soft, pleasant touch. A more traditional black version is also available.
Specs-wise, the Oppo Reno 7 hovers between entry-level and mid-range. There is the SoC, first, which is none other than a Snapdragon 680. A chip with limited power, which is already found in particular on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11.
Not a thunderbolt, therefore, but Oppo has the good taste to associate it with 8 GB of RAM, which is comfortable. Finally, on the storage side, we are entitled to 128 GB expandable to 1 TB through the MicroSD port.
The screen is, on paper, very decent for a smartphone of this caliber, with a 6.43-inch FHD + AMOLED panel (2400 x 1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Under the screen, a sensor fingerprint is used to authenticate.
An innovative selfie sensor… and the return of the “microscope”
But it is above all the photo proposal that surprises and which therefore earns it the marketing nickname of “portrait specialist”. First, Oppo chose to take care of the selfie sensor. It is indeed an IMX709 at the helm, a 32 Mpix sensor, designed hand in hand with Sony, which benefits from a improved Bayer matrix.
What, according to Oppo, capture 60% more light than conventional sensors, reducing digital noise. State-of-the-art equipment for selfie lovers, which has already appeared on the Find X 5 Prothe brand’s high-end smartphone.
At the rear, the proposal is wiser… Although. First there is a 64 Mpix wide-angle sensor (25 mm, f / 1.7), but no telephoto or ultra wide-angle. Oppo preferred to recycle here the “microscopic” sensor which had amused us on the Find X 3 Pro (even if it is less powerful here). We can therefore, with this Reno 7, try to photograph the infinitely small by sticking our smartphone to a tiny subject. Not sure, however, that you use it every day!
Oppo has also played the software card to make this smartphone a portrait expert, including a “Portrait Pro” mode, supposed to offer a more realistic bokeh effect, or a “Selfie HDR” function, to increase the details of a self-portrait. in low light.

A 4,500 mAh battery and 33 W fast charging
We will see during our tests if the Oppo Reno 7 holds up in terms of autonomy. Chances are: the Snapdragon 680 is a particularly energy-efficient SoC and its 4500 mAh battery, although smaller than that of a Redmi Note 11, for example, should ensure it has a decent lifespan. Oppo also delivers it with a 33W SuperVOOC charger, which promises a 0 to 50% charge in 30 minutes.
