The Austrian raceboarders also won the mixed parallel team competition at their home World Cup in Bad Gastein. Daniela Ulbing/Andreas Prommegger triumphed on the Buchebenhang on Wednesday, Sabine Schöffmann/Alexander Payer came fourth. In the parallel slalom on Tuesday, Ulbing and Claudia Riegler celebrated an ÖSV double victory. Payer had finished second.
In the team competition, Ulbing/Prommegger made it to the final, in which they also defeated the German duo Ramona Hofmeister/Stefan Baumeister. “This victory was very important. It feels great to drive and win in front of a home crowd,” emphasized local hero Prommegger in an ORF interview after the first joint success with Ulbing from Carinthia. “I took yesterday’s upswing with me and had the necessary self-image,” said the now six-time Gastein winner Ulbing.
Schöffmann/Payer were eliminated in the semifinals by Baumeister/Hofmeister, in the small final the couple, who were also in a private relationship, lost out to Julie Zogg/Dario Caviezel from Switzerland after a mistake by Schöffmann. “Fourth place is always bitter, we hope that we can do better next time or at the World Cup,” said Schöffmann.
Claudia Riegler/Arvid Auner got stuck in the round of 16, Martina Ankele/Benjamin Karl already in the qualification. The next race is a giant slalom on Saturday in Scuol, Switzerland. At the same time, the freestylers around Anna Gasser are in big air action on the Kreischberg.
