Justice: Ousmane Sonko guns down “a dozen magistrates who want to burn this country”

“Justice has become one of the main evils of the Senegalese population. This is why I will lay bare the inadmissible behavior of a small section of Senegalese justice. The case does not exceed ten magistrates. Prosecutor Abdou Aziz Diop, Prosecutor General Bakhoum, the prosecution in general and the investigating judges of the second and first cabinets”.

The leader of Pastef thus took out the sulfateuse to attack part of the Senegalese justice system. According to Ousmane Sonko, “all the Senegalese who are arrested and placed under a warrant are the work of Macky Sall; the public prosecutor’s office being attached to the Ministry of Justice. Macky Sall’s strategy is to investigate the files. In some countries, the prosecutor’s office is no longer attached to the judicial order, because it is not independent. They stop en masse and delay the presentation in front of a judge, because they are not 100% sure that the judges will follow. They place them under judicial control, under instruction and/or under electronic surveillance by delaying the procedure and leaving it to rot for months”, he denounces.

Continuing his diatribe, Sonko adds: “Meanwhile, his son Amadou Sall, who spends all his time recruiting thugs, and his wife Marième Faye spent the Korité at home.”

In the same dynamic, Ousmane Sonko notes that “in the search for sufficiently docile and laid-back judges, magistrates have been affected because they refused to ask for a firm conviction during a simple defamation trial. Barely a week ago, we attended home consultations. Magistrates have been affected for refusing to bend. My relationship with justice is made up of persecutions, violations of my rights. For four years, I have been persecuted in a way that no politician has ever known. My removal from the Public Service without my rights being respected”.

According to Ousmane Sonko, magistrates were affected because they refused to ask for two years in the case for defamation which opposes him to Mame Mbaye Niang. And that the postponement of his appeal trial to May 8 is linked to the fact that the president of the Court of Appeal has not yet found judges who can respect his instructions to the letter and pronounce a sentence of ineligibility.

Ousmane Sonko nevertheless specifies that his remarks do not concern all magistrates. “It’s a few positions at the level of the prosecutor’s office, of the investigating judges of the Court of Appeal, of the Constitutional Council which risk setting this country on fire,” he said.
