For Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 102) the semifinals of the hard court tournament in Winston-Salem are the end of the line. The Zurich qualifier loses against Laslo Djere (ATP 89) 6: 7 (3: 7), 6: 7 (5: 7).

Hüsler gave the Serb a very close game. In the first round he missed two chances to win the set with a score of 5:4, in the second he came back after being 0:3 behind. Ultimately, the 26-year-old left-hander, who has never been in the final at ATP level, only had to admit defeat after 2:18 hours and after the ninth match point.

Hüsler had already lost on clay in Bastad in July against Djere, who meets Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the final. Thanks to the five victories in a row at the ATP 250 event in the US state of North Carolina, the Swiss number 1 in the world rankings published on Monday improved to position 81, his best ranking of his career.

For Hüsler, it’s on to New York. At the US Open on Tuesday he will meet Canadian Denis Shapovalov (ATP 21) in the first round.
