The number of confirmed diagnoses has continued to increase rapidly, the public’s panic has intensified, and the pressure on front-line epidemic prevention at the grassroots level has exploded.
The Taiwan Epidemic Command Center announced on the 2nd that there were 17,858 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia, including 17,801 local cases and 57 imported cases; 3 new deaths were added among the confirmed cases.
The command center explained that the 17,801 new local cases that day were between the ages of under 5 and over 90; the distribution of cases was 6,584 in New Taipei City and 3,718 in Taipei City. There are 3 new local deaths, 1 male and 2 female elderly, all of which are severe infections and have a history of chronic diseases. The date of diagnosis is between April 20 and April 26, and the date of death is between April. 27th to 28th April.
The person in charge of the command center said that control measures such as prohibiting indoor use in catering establishments and online teaching have not been considered at present.
It is reported that in the face of the daily high number of confirmed cases, the pressure of front-line epidemic prevention is “exploding”. Some grass-roots health center staff said that in the past two weeks, the number of quarantine notices has increased sharply, and “it’s normal to not receive a notice for 10 days.” Because the administrative speed cannot keep up with the policy changes, the people are also at a loss, causing troubles at the grassroots level.
Rapid screening reagents are a weapon for the people to “self-resilient”. However, since the real-name system for quick screening was launched five days ago, many people still cannot buy quick screening reagents and go to the emergency center of the hospital to register for PCR screening, resulting in a shortage of manpower in the emergency center.
According to statistics from the command center, as of the 2nd, nearly 10 million doses of rapid screening reagents have been sold across Taiwan. According to a 5-dose calculation, it is equivalent to 2 million purchases.
Taiwan’s “United Daily News” reported that an emergency physician said: “The current situation is similar to that in May last year, but after a year, I have not learned the lesson.” There are many emergency department people, and there is a risk of cross infection. Another doctor revealed that “triage for mild cases” proved to be just a slogan. Due to the lack of information integration and “playing balls with each other”, infected people and close contacts were afraid, and some mildly infected people went to the emergency room just to get medicine.
The command center stated that in order to relieve the pressure of emergency screening crowds, it has planned to increase community screening stations, emergency triage and other response measures. From now on, asymptomatic people need to be quickly screened positive before they can take nucleic acid PCR tests. At present, the seven free screening stations in Taipei are full of people, and people need to wait at least an hour.
