Over a million doses of COVID vaccine destroyed?

According to information obtained by TVA, one million doses of the COVID vaccine will expire next month.

It is therefore very likely that these doses, if not used in time, will be destroyed.

Since the start of the pandemic, 107,000 doses have been destroyed due to their expiry date.

In Quebec, approximately 3 million doses of COVID vaccine are currently available.

Specifically, 160,000 doses of Moderna’s vaccine will expire in June and 860,000 in July.

On the Pfizer side, 400,000 doses will expire in October, and 1.1 million in November of this year.

The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, evokes the possibility of returning certain doses to the federal government so that they can be used.

“The main principle is a precautionary principle. What the health commissioners have asked us for is to have supplies to make sure we don’t run out. We told the federal government that if ever there were doses that were regarding to expire, we would be available to send them to keep a good inventory, ”says Christian Dubé.

He also confirms that he has ensured that Quebec will have enough doses for the vaccination campaign he wishes to carry out in the fall.
