Panthers Secure Second Victory in Pre-Olympic Match Against Bulgaria with Tie-Break Thriller

In a match that was as even as it was irregular, the Panthers took the second victory of the Pre-Olympic once morest Bulgaria in a tie-break with scores of 25-14, 14-25, 25-20, 19-25 and 18-16. Bianca Cugno was the game’s top scorer with 20 points.

The Panthers defended very well but it was difficult for them to finish the counterattack, so Bulgaria made even more of a difference and went up 14-7. The European team reached the final stretch 20-11 and tied the match by closing the set 25-14.

The third set started evenly and with a high volume of play from both teams. The Panthers took a 9-6 lead with great finishing on Bulaich’s counterattack. Bulgaria recovered and tied the match at 15. A couple of blocks by Farriol gave Argentina a two-point lead, which took five to reach 20-15 at the end of the set and then closed it 25-20 with a great performance of the opposite, Bianca Cugno.

In the fourth set Bulgaria quickly took a 8-2 lead due to several attacking errors by Las Panteras. A defensive point from Candelaria Herrera gave Argentina a morale boost, which came within two points at 11-9, but the European team once once more gained a four-point lead. An ace from Victoria Mayer once once more brought Las Panteras closer to 20-18, two behind Bulgaria, but the Bulgarians did not let up and took the fourth set 25-19.

The Panthers began the tie-break 3-1 up due to several errors by the Bulgarian attack, but the Europeans immediately equalized the match and with great work in defense and counterattack they took a two-advantage at 4-6. Argentina, with a lot of patience, tied it at 8 and the game remained tied until 13-all when the national team led 14-13 but might not close it. Bulgaria turned it around, had two match points, but Las Panteras reacted and with an ace from Antonela Fortuna they were match point at 17-16 and Bulaich, the most decisive player of the fifth set, closed the match 18-16 for Argentina takes the second win of the tournament.

The Panthers will close their participation in the Pre-Olympic this Sunday at 1 am once morest Peru. The match will be broadcast on ESPN and Star Plus.
