Paraglider landed in trees in Gmunden

A 26-year-old paraglider from Ried im Innkreis flew to the “Mühlibankerl” landing site at around 1.30 p.m. on Sunday – starting from Grünberg in Gmunden. He noticed another plane that was also heading for the landing site. The man abruptly stopped his maneuver. The umbrella was initially behind him, but then folded forward, causing the 26-year-old to lose control.

It landed in the adjacent trees, the umbrella became entangled in an ash tree about 25 meters high. The man got stuck unhurt at a height of ten meters and was unable to free himself. One of his companions notified the emergency services.

Because the branches were brittle and far out, the man could only be rescued after a ladder was mounted on a farm loader owned by a neighboring farmer. With this makeshift construction, a firefighter and an Alpine police officer were able to free the man.
