Parliament is too spendthrift, says Ueli Maurer

Parliament is spending too much, according to Federal Councilor Ueli Maurer. The Federal Chambers have completely lost their sense of proportion, said the Minister of Finance on Saturday in an interview with the CH-Media group.

A National commission is proposing a project to abolish the rental value which would lead to tax losses of nearly 4 billion, gives the example of the Zurich resident. Many additional expenditures have also been decided during the last two sessions.

If all these projects succeed, an adjustment of 3 to 5 billion will be necessary in 2024, comments Mr. Maurer. In 2025, it will be 5 to 7 billion. ‘Imagine the economy programme,’ he adds.

Austerity measures or an increase in taxes is then to be expected. “Or else, we renounce certain expenses”, specifies Ueli Maurer. The Federal Council has not yet addressed the issue.
