Off the coast of the island of Hokkaido in northern Japan, the cruise ship KAZU 1 (“Kazu van”) is sinking, TASS reports.
There are 26 people on board. This was announced on Saturday by the NHK TV channel.
According to the channel, 24 passengers are in danger, including two children, as well as the ship’s captain and his assistant.
All people have put on life jackets and are waiting for help from the Japan Maritime Safety Administration. They have already sent planes and patrol boats to the scene of the incident.
The causes of the incident were not reported.
Meanwhile, RIA Novosti reports that the Kyodo agency reports that rescuers cannot find the ship.
