Patras: Barrage of checks ahead of Easter – 2024-04-05 11:52:24

A barrage of checks begins next week in the run-up to Easter, at retail-wholesale points, slaughterhouses, gateways to the country and highways, with an emphasis on meat products and eggs.

With decision of the Minister of Rural Development and Food Lefteris Avgenakisin the following days the owork group and mixed grades of controllers.

The controls aim at protection of Greek products and producers, in ensuring the quality of traded products and protecting the consumer.

At the same time, the controls on dairy and fruit and vegetableswhile they have started controls on olive oil and honey. Checks are done in retail outlets and super marketsbut also in entry gates into the country, i.e. ports and borders.

In markets including in Patrashave been made checks at 85 retail outlets from where 177 samples have been sent for analysisof which 103 have been sent for laboratory analysis to the State General Chemistry (GCK) and 74 in the laboratories of ELGO DIMITRA.

At the entrance gates have been carried out 63 controls at the port of Patras (21 in drums of milk products and 42 in loads of cheeses). It is noted that it is given special emphasis on the control of PDO products, such as FETA, which are identified with Greek production.

Sta Dairy Productsto date from 103 samples sent to GHK the 86 concern FETAof which at 57 analyzes have been completed. Sta 55 no findings emergedwhile one was adulterated with cow’s milk and in yet another it was found higher humidity than expected and to 9 samples showed non-compliance with labeling requirements.

In regards to label markingThe APPEAL examines 267 samplesof which the 249 is of various dairy products. So far it has been completed examination of 175 samples and 78 identified non-conformities reported; which concern incorrect or incomplete indication of the mandatory indications on the packaging, failure to indicate the origin of the milk, country of origin, installation approval number and incorrect labeling of PDO products.

Regarding the fresh fruit and vegetables, 194 controls have been carried out at the ports of Patras, Igoumenitsa, Promachonas and at toll roads.

In particular, in fruit and vegetables, checks concern apples and potatoes, while checks have started on oranges and tangerines and are continuing on kiwis.
