The Patras Conservatory Philharmonic Society organizes the Thematic Seminar – Guitar Workshops: “Introduction to historical instruments and updated performance from the Renaissance to the early 20th century”.
On Saturday 2/03/ 2024, at 2 in the afternoon the 2nd Seminar-Workshop will be held, with the theme “Baroque”.
In the Seminar-Laboratory, Dr. Yiannis Efstathopouloswho in December 2023, in the same place, gave a Lecture – Guitar Recital, on the topic: “The Spanish guitar in the years of Federico Garcia Lorca and Manuel de Falla”.
Yiannis Efstathopoulos is PhD in Arts from the Free University of Brussels and guitar teacher at the Department of Music Studies at the University of Ioannina. He studied classical guitar, early music and historical instruments at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the University of Macedonia and the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. He worked as a researcher, guitar assistant and taught historically informed performance at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He has lectured at the Universities of Surrey, Granada, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Dublin, among others, and writes articles in international journals. He recorded for the Belgian label Passacaille and has given recitals in countries such as Belgium, Holland, England, Spain, Italy, France, Austria and Greece.
The Guitar Seminar – Workshop includes four courses with the following topics:
1) Rebirth
2) Baroque
3) Classic
4) Romanticism and National schools.
The first round was completed on Saturday, February 3rd.
Participants will get to know and experiment with historical instruments such as vihuela, baroque guitar, romantic, historical Torres. Authentic notation, historical sources will be analyzed and performance techniques, idioms/style will be taught. Finally, there will be a partnership in the dances and the forms, the ornaments but also the elements of improvisation of each era.
The structure of the 3-hour workshop contains a lecture and a group lesson with the additional option of an individual lesson on the thematic repertoire with proposed works.
The next Seminars will take place on the following dates:
Saturday, April 6 (3rd Seminar)
Saturday, May 18 (4th Seminar)
Member prices: (3-hour workshop) 30 euros, (3-hour workshop + 30′ individual lesson) 60 euros, (listener) 15 euros.
