The statement added: “I reported the facts to the Italian and French police a month ago, and there will be no further comments on the ongoing investigations.”

In August, a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office told CNN that an investigation had been launched that month into an organized gang accused of extortion, while Italian police confirmed to CNN that they were not investigating the allegations.
