As they learn to golf, Thomas and Simon take advantage of an unobstructed view of Bordeaux early in the morning. “It’s extraordinary as a frame”, launches the first while the second works on his swing. First came to play squash on the second floor of an imposing sports complex, they were tempted at the end of the session by the rooftop of the fifth floor of UCPA Sport Station Bordeaux and its golf driving range.

First came to play squash on the second floor of an imposing sports complex, they were tempted at the end of the session by the rooftop of the fifth floor of UCPA Sport Station Bordeaux and its golf driving range.

“We saw the pitch and, out of curiosity, we thought we were going to try while we were there,” says Thomas, still drenched in sweat after his squash game. Within its five floors, the building, rue Charles-Chaigneau in Brazza, offers paid reservations to practice climbing, golf, bodybuilding, boxing, padel, squash, golf or urban dance. A trendy concept that affects many other sports, such as football or basketball.

Why pay?

“We pay for our sessions for the practical side”, explains David, who has come to play padel with friends, before continuing: “We are sure of having a field for us, of the quality of the field, and we do not have to equip. All the material is there, which makes it easier for us to organize and saves us time. We can come directly from work, we just take shoes and shorts. » Same story with customers of the Hoops Factory Bordeaux, located on rue Dumont-d’Urville, at the Lac. “When we come here, we know that we are going to play basketball on a beautiful parquet floor, indoors, without wind, without rain, with professional playing conditions and good balls”, explains Vincent, who came to train alone before the resumption of the club season.

The other practical side is the possibility of coming alone and playing with others. “Many take a day pass at 12 euros, which allows them to play unlimited from 10 to 18 hours, and form teams with others who come alone or in groups to make oppositions”, says Charles Paillette, manager of the Hoops Factory. “Pick-up slots” are even set up to bring together all the players without a team so that they can compete for two hours.

For sports that cannot be practiced alone, such as squash or padel, “a Facebook group is available to find teammates, which allows you to practice even when you don’t know other players” , specifies Hugo Veny, employee at the reception of the Sport Station. On the third floor, Nathan and Pierre met through this group, and share the snowshoes for a leisure session. “We will surely share a beer afterwards on the roof”, smiles the last one, “happy to be able to sweat a shot”.

For what types of athletes?

A few days or weeks before the resumption of the sports seasons, many are those who come to train seriously. Leo, 12, is a monthly subscriber to the Hoops Factory and comes “almost every day”: “I changed clubs, which takes me from departmental to regional level, so I want to be at the level for recovery. Alone, he works on his dribbling and shooting, before joining opposition with other players. For their part, these structures also offer formulas for training in the presence of qualified profiles.

“We work with four coaches who can follow interested players on suitable programs. We also have a lot of professional players who come to train or get back in shape,” rejoices Charles Paillette. No elitism, however, since these structures “are open to all”. “Someone who has never played in their life can play pick-ups very well with experienced players, as well as with beginner friends. Everyone is benefiting. » For players waiting for a certain level, it is always possible to reserve their own pitch.

Open since May 13 and with 2,500 subscribers, the UCPA Sport Station Bordeaux will also set up supervised training and sessions for each activity it offers from September. According to the director of the site, Céline Cluzel: “The added value of these structures is to allow everyone to play sports freely while meeting people, but also in a supervised way, thanks to monitors. On the fifth floor, Éléa, 9, is not waiting for September and is already working on her swing and precision with her trainer Laurent. And for those who would like to try it without paying, an open day will take place on September 16.
