Senior POLITICIAN from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hendrawan Supratikno believes that President-elect Prabowo Subianto’s proposal to form a special forum for previous presidents is considered an idea worth finalizing. He believes that the PDIP General Chair who is also the fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, will welcome matters related to the nation’s interests.
Hendrawan admitted that he had just heard of the idea. According to him, the forum needs to clarify its aims and objectives if it is in the interests of the nation.
“Its nature is just for gathering and friendship or a high-class discussion forum to explain the nation’s strategic problems. We are waiting for the explanation,” said Hendrawan when contacted by Media Indonesia, Friday (3/5).
Nevertheless, he considered Prabowo’s idea good enough to be finalized. “While waiting for clarity, it is an idea worthy of careful consideration,” he said.
This idea was conveyed by Prabowo Subianto’s spokesperson, Dahnil Azhar Simanjuntak. According to him, the forum, called the Presidential Club, aims to ensure that former presidents can continue to meet regularly and discuss strategic national issues.
Dahnil believes that when the time comes, Prabowo will meet President Jokowi, the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), and the fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri. (Z-2)
