Pedestrian Barometer: Public Space Comfort and Safety – A Critical Reflection

2023-11-12 07:31:37

First observation of the barometer, all pedestrians agree on what is “marchable or not” and the dissatisfaction is shared by the entire pedestrian community.

Thus, 70% of those questioned think that public spaces are not suitable for travel on foot, or with a stroller, people with young children, the elderly and people with reduced mobility.

Furthermore, 64% of women do not feel safe at night and adapt their path compared to 49% of men. Another lesson from the barometer is that pedestrians are critical of the comfort of their travel on foot.

80% of them deplore the lack of facilities to ensure their comfort (toilets, benches, shelters, drinking water dispensers, etc.) and 69% of them are bothered by the nuisance generated by the circulation of motor vehicles.
