Pakistan People’s Party has nominated Yusuf Raza Gilani as a candidate for the post of Chairman of Upper House Senate.
People’s Party has nominated Yusuf Raza Gilani as the candidate for the Chairman Senate and the official notification of his nomination has also been issued.
It should be noted that former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani was elected senator last month on one of the six vacant seats in the Senate.
In the Senate election held in the National Assembly, Yusuf Raza Gilani was successful with 204 votes while his rival candidate Ilyas Mehrban got 88 votes.
Currently, no date has been announced for the election of Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman, but it is expected to be delayed.
Recently, former Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Dilshad said that the chairman and deputy chairman cannot be elected until the Senate is elected in KP.
He said that electing the Senate by ignoring 30 seats is a violation of the constitution, until these members are sworn in in the Provincial Assembly, the Election Commission will delay the election of the Senate.
He had said that the Electoral College is being completed in three provinces but there is a problem of Electoral College in KP.
It should be remembered that the Election Commission had postponed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Senate elections on the request of Tehreek-e-Insaf.
