Pérez hits a 2-run double; Royals top Padres 5-4

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Salvador Perez hit a two-run double as part of a five-run second inning as the Kansas City Royals beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Tuesday night.

Brady Singer pitched solidly through six innings for Kansas City, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Royals beat up starter Seth Lugo (3-3) in the second act. Bobby Witt Jr., Nate Eaton and Matt Duffy also drove in runs.

Lugo allowed five runs and four hits in his two innings of work. The Padres have lost eight of 10 games.

Singer (3-4) went six innings, giving up seven hits and four runs, two of which were earned. Scott Barlow achieved his fifth save, by solving the ninth chapter blank.

For the Royals, Venezuelans Pérez 5-1 with two RBIs, Edward Olivares 4-1 with a run scored, Maikel García 4-1, Freddy Fermín 2-0. Puerto Rican MJ Meléndez 3-0 with a run scored.

For the Padres, the Dominicans Fernando Tatis Jr. 4-1 with a run scored, Juan Soto 4-2. The Venezuelan Rougned Odor 4-1.
