Perlimps is a beautiful and sensitive Brazilian animation [CRÍTICA]

Perlimps opens in theaters this Thursday, February 9. It is a new Brazilian animation directed by the talented Brazilian filmmaker Ale Abreu, which delighted and surprised the world in 2016 by getting an Oscar nomination for Best Animation for its sensitive work in O Menino e o Mundo. In this new production, Alê creates suspense about who the “perlimps” are and sends a meaningful message to the world.

Perlimps review

The story of this new feature film follows Claé and Bruô, voiced with talent by Giulia Benite and Lorenzo Tarantelli, who strive to show the development of a friendship between two spies from rival kingdoms. The two go in search of the Perlimps, magical beings that can save the world, and it is around them that the plot holds you through an incessant search for the origin of these creatures.

Right away you are impressed with the level of minimalism in the most diverse scenarios through which the duo passes. In each scene you see a work of art, which is a very positive point for anyone watching the film on a big screen.

The soundtrack is also another detail apart, being an excellent complement to the action and escape scenes, even if few throughout the film. Sometimes epic, sometimes electronic with very Brazilian sounds, the production reflects a really impressive level of minimalism.

But of course, not everything is rosy. The narrative, with a script by Alê Abreu himself, is very drawn out, with very few action scenes and with the need to explain everything that is happening at all times. The script fails to maintain the same level, with ups and downs that unfortunately spoil the work as a whole. The truth is that this will put a lot of people to sleep.

Anyway, worth the fun. Perlimps has a naive script, but manages to move with a beautiful message about peace and unity in times of war, something that unfortunately is still part of our reality in the 21st century.
