Persons with disabilities and meritorious persons, toll reduction with general high pass

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 15th that it will pilot an improvement plan that allows people with disabilities and people of merit to receive reduced highway tolls by inserting an integrated welfare card into the general high-pass terminal for two months from the 16th.

Until now, in order to receive toll reductions on the high-pass lanes for the disabled and people of merit, they had to use the reduced-tax high-pass terminal equipped with a separate fingerprint reader to check whether they boarded or not. Even after purchasing the device, he had to go through cumbersome administrative procedures such as visiting an administrative welfare center or a veterans’ branch office to register his or her fingerprint.

The newly developed method of reduction greatly improved the existing inconvenience by allowing individuals to obtain prior consent and check the location of their mobile phone instead of inconvenient biometric information authentication.

Jang Soon-jae, head of road policy department at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “I expect that the inconveniences experienced by the disabled and people of merit will be greatly alleviated by improving the high-pass reduction method. I will do it,” he said.
