Peru withdraws its recognition of the “RASD” and supports the autonomy plan

IThis is one of the first decisions, in terms of foreign policy, of the new Peruvian Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Rodriguez Mackaynamed only ten days ago. In a press release from the Peruvian ministry, this Latin American state announces the withdrawal of its recognition of the pseudo “Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic” as well as the severance of relations with this entity.

“In accordance with international law, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and with full respect for the principles of the territorial integrity of the Member States of the United Nations (…) the government of the Republic of Peru, values ​​and respects the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its national sovereignty, as well as the autonomy plan “proposed as a solution to” this regional dispute”, announced the Peruvian diplomacy.

According to Lima, this decision is motivated by the absence of real cooperation relations between Peru and the said entity as well as the will of this government to strengthen bilateral relations with Morocco.

Thus, the two Executives agreed on the immediate signing of a multi-sectoral roadmap covering regular political consultations, effective cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, education, energy, agriculture and fertilizers, the statement concludes.

With this decision, Peru joins other countries of this continent, historically known for its support for the Polisariohaving frozen or withdrawn their recognitions of the pseudo « SADR“, whose Dominican RepublicGuatemala, Paraguay, Guyana, El Salvador and Surinamwhich even has a general consulate in Dakhla.
