Petro congratulated the National Team and gave the Ministry of Sport a task with the Women’s League

The elected president, Gustavo Petro, congratulated the Colombian Women’s National Team on Tuesday for his classification to the final of the Copa América and for achieving the quota to the World Cup and the Olympic Games.

The president posted a message on Twitter congratulating the national team: “Congratulations! Really, really. power to women”.

And then he launched another trill in which he entrusted the Ministry of Sport management with the Women’s League.

“One of the first tasks of the Ministry of Sport is to ensure that the women’s football league is constituted”, was the mission of President-elect Gustavo Petro.

In the actual Government delivered 1,200 million pesos for the Dimayor to carry out the Women’s League more extensively this year. In fact, the idea was to play two tournaments in 2022.

“The Government’s commitment is to further promote sport throughout the country and with this contribution the promotion and development of women’s football,” said the Minister of Sport, Guillermo Herrera Castaño, when he made the announcement of these resources.

Nevertheless, the 2022 championship was played between February and June with just 17 clubs. América de Cali won the title.

Before, the disappeared Coldeportes also promoted the Women’s League of soccer contributing money. The first championship was held in 2017 with 18 teams and six months of competition and since then the Government has allocated resources year after year for its realization.

The 2021 League was won by Cali. 12 teams participated in it and it was played between July 12 and September 19, something that the players criticized for considering that it was a very short tournament.

So more than the Government’s decision to support the Women’s League, they must be the Federation and the Dimayor those that best manage the championship for women, remembering that both are private entities.
