The future of Vancouver Canucks star player Elias Pettersson is unclear.

Pettersson’s agent, JP Barry, told CHEK television that he still hasn’t had a discussion with the Canucks regarding a potential contract extension. The forward player will spend the last season of a three-year agreement in 2023-2024, which earns him $7.35 million per year.

“We had initial discussions with the team about the start of negotiations. The free agent market as well as the last draft have been very demanding for us. Negotiations will resume later this summer, but I think right now we just have to get through this,” Barry said during his appearance on the show. Donnie and Dhali.

Barry also said he plans to travel to Los Angeles next week to discuss the situation with his business partner, agent Pat Brisson.

However, he does not plan to enter negotiations on a contract extension for his client with Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin until the start of the campaign.

“We’re all going to take a little break, because it’s been a very long year. We will probably have discussions by the end of July or later in the summer. Everything is possible, because we have already done it several times in the summer by organizing meetings at the beginning of September, before the training camps begin, ”he added.

Barry pointed out that Pettersson is very happy in the Vancouver organization, but he would certainly like to win as soon as possible with this team.

“He wants to progress, like all the other players. Elias isn’t the only one who wants to win. He likes the group he is in and he hopes he can improve it. He also really likes the city, and we’re going to have a lot to discuss when we talk about an extension.

The Swedish striker hit personal highs in 2022-23. The Canucks’ first pick in 2017 had 102 points and found the back of the net 39 times in 80 games.
