A pharmacist will now be able to inject and prescribe all the vaccines in the vaccination schedule to patients over the age of 11. “You have the vaccine for hepatitis, meningitis. The only exception is live attenuated vaccines such as measles, for immunocompromised people, as well as traveler’s vaccines.
Nurses and midwives can also vaccinate
On the patient side, the measure is well accepted. “This allows you to go a little faster and to have contact with the pharmacist, whom you know well.“, admits one of them. With third-party payment, candidates for the vaccine will have to pay nothing. To be authorized to vaccinate, the 60,000 pharmacists in France will first have to undergo training. According to the new decree, nurses and midwives will also be able to prescribe and vaccinate.
