Pierrakakis: “The era of lawlessness in universities without consequences is over” 2024-03-27 12:35:37

Kyriakos Pierrakakis, speaking about the recent events at university institutions in Athens and Thessaloniki, said: “We are not yet in the situation we want, but we are also far from the situation we inherited in 2019. The police intervene more easily and will continue to intervene where there is a problem” said Mr. Pierrakakis, and called on “the rectors to assume the responsibility that falls on them for the operation of the universities”.

The Minister of Education revealed that in collaboration with the Ministry of Citizen Protection special plans are being drawn up “institution by institution” for the needs of their safe operation.

Regarding the increasing manifestations of school violence, Mr. Pierrakakis argued that “the context of the use of mobile phones in schools and the consequences it should have for students is being examined” and added that this will be included in the new regulations on school violence and bullying, along with expulsions, new absenteeism and easier school environment change.

Regarding the accident in Tempe, Mr. Pierrakakis denied that there is any cover-up on the part of the government and asked for confidence in the Justice, asking to stop any attempt to exploit the event.

He mentioned that New Democracy as a government ran in six months the creation of 112, thanks to which thousands of lives have been saved, but he never demanded criminal responsibility from SYRIZA who never started it and never completed it, despite the fact that everyone today they are sure that if the system had worked in earlier disasters dozens of people would have been saved.

“We referred exclusively to political responsibilities and we always highlighted them” Mr. Pierrakakis emphasized, contrasting the treatment of the accident in Tempi with that of the tragedy in Mati.

Finally, referring to the request of Mr. Spirtzis, submitted to the Speaker of the Parliament, for the investigation of his responsibilities, Mr. Pierrakakis clarified that “the case does not concern Mr. Spirtzis, he knows very well that for him the deadlines of the law, which the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis subsequently changed, so that ministers have a completely different treatment than before”.
