Scuderia AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly visited Radion in Spa-Francorchamps, where his best friend Antoine Hubert had an accident, prior to the 2022 F1 Round 14 Belgian Grand Prix, and handed flowers.
In 2019, at the FIA-F2 feature race held as a support race on the same weekend as the F1 Belgian GP, Antoine Hubert was involved in a big crash and died at the young age of 22.
Antoine Hubert and Pierre Gasly were best friends who were from the same France, started karting together, lived in the same apartment, and worked hard to become F1 drivers.
On Thursday of the F1 Belgian Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly made his way to the top of Rydion Hill during a track walk before stopping to pay tribute to his deceased friend.
The F1 Belgian Grand Prix will be the start of the second half of the 2022 season after the summer vacation. Pierre Gasly says summer break changed his mind.
“I enjoyed my vacation and visited Greece for the first time with friends for a week, followed by family time in France with my parents, brothers, nephews and nieces, followed by two days in Spain,” commented Pierre Gasly. .
“To be able to relax and be with my family while training is something that seems trivial, but it’s been great.”
“Above all, I had a good rest for the end of the season. Then I went back to work and started with a trip to the simulator. Everyone has been working hard since Monday and my calls have been more than the last three weeks. I’ve been ringing busy all the time!”
“Spa is one of my favorite tracks. I will be back in the starting block for three races in three weeks. Of course I am excited to be back in the car and racing again after my break.”
“The last few races before the break were quite complicated for us as we didn’t score any points and things didn’t go our way. It wasn’t what we wanted as a team. We’ve made some updates to , but now I understand it a little bit more.”
“But it’s still complicated and all the teams in the midfield are very close together. Instead of giving up, we’re going to keep working hard and try to get the performance out of the car as soon as possible so that we can score points every weekend. I will do my best.”
“Last year Spa was a washout, but this year we can see for the first time the changes they have made to the track, especially the Eau Rouge Raidillon.
“After what happened to Antoine there, they did a thorough investigation. This is what they came up with, with some further changes to the run-off areas and gravel traps.”
