Pierre Marcotte, former animator well known to the Quebec public and owner of several companies, died as a result of the COVID-19 at the age of 83, Wednesday evening.
Resident of the Charlevoix region, he was hospitalized at the University Institute of Cardiology and Pneumology of Quebec, said Productions Martin Leclerc in a press release.
Born in Joliette in 1938, he began his career as a radio host and took drama lessons. After stints in Granby, Trois-Rivières and Quebec, he became one of the star hosts of CKVL in Montreal.
Mr. Marcotte then embarked on a television career that led him to the helm of several variety and quiz shows, such as The Tannantss, at Télé-Métropole.
He hosted other shows in the 1990s and 2000s on various television networks such as TVA and TQS.
Along with his career as a host, he was the manager of the Hélène-de-Champlain restaurant in Parc Jean-Drapeau for 25 years.
He was preparing to return to the stage in September, for a show in songs and humor entitled The Afternoons of Pierre Marcotte at the Casino de Montreal.
Mr. Marcotte leaves to mourn his spouse Denise Plouffe as well as his two sons, Pascal, from a first marriage with Ginette Ravel, and Bruno-Pierre, from his union with Shirley Théroux.
