He pointed out that “It was a tribute to 50 years of our history but also a conference of ideas with interesting and fruitful positions on political issues and with a strong message of rallying at the start of a new electoral battle. Under the leadership of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, we are heading towards the European elections with faith, unity and optimism and above all with a sense of responsibility for the critical moments and the stakes of the electoral contest”.
As he typically said: “In the June elections, we are not only voting for Europe, but we are voting for Greece in Europe. We are voting so that the course of our country towards the future continues undisturbed”.
As Mr. Plakiotakis said after expressing his thanks as chairman of the Organizing Committee, “self-criticism and the recognition of failures is a useful tool for the one who has the responsibility of governance. In a huge, complex project, trying to eliminate decades of pathogens in a few years, there will be difficult moments. But difficulties small and big arm us with more knowledge and stronger faith on the way to our goal. And our goal remains one and unchanged: for our Greece to be a strong and prosperous country at the close core of the European family”.
Wanting to summarize in a few words what came out of the Conference, he said: “ND is a living organism that learns from the past, looks to the future and adapts to the present. It is a faction that exists to serve the country, defend reason and provide answers to ideology and populism. Ideologically, it remains committed to the liberal space, recognizing and serving the role of the state in supporting our weakest and most vulnerable fellow citizens. It is a deeply patriotic party with faith in national values, traditions and symbols, but it is also a party that monitors and follows social development.”
He pointed out that the ND conference marked the beginning of another struggle that ends on June 9 but does not end there because it is a continuous, persistent, multi-fronted struggle. “Against us are the problems and pathogens bequeathed to us by the past. Against us are populism and toxicity, the interests and attitudes affected by the reforms. But we have our principles, values and work as our answer”.
He emphasized that on June 9 there is no room for a relaxed vote and abstention.
In closing, he emphasized that on June 9, “Kyriakos Mitsotakis and New Democracy renew the contract of trust with the Greek people. So let’s start! Fronted by Kyriakos Mitsotakis! With the base and the executives in coordination and solidarity! With our ideas and positions for Greece in Europe and in the world! With a flag our project and plan for the country. Inspired by the history and struggles of this faction. With all Greek women and men for the future we deserve”.
