Plaza Huincul has a video game to discover its history

The past is intertwined with innovation in the digital age. In Plaza Huincul he presented “Carmen, Adventures in the past, saga I”, a video game that invites youth and childhood to explore and rescue history with the contribution of its protagonists.

The game, which is now available on the Play Store, originated with the support of the Association Wikimedia Commons Argentina with the aim of being able to portray the story in a dynamic and multi-platform way.

“Throughout the experience, different points or historical milestones are found from which the pioneer “Carmen Funes invites the player to help her document the events that occurred to the community and its residents.”highlighted Sol Cabezas, a member of the project in dialogue with BLACK RIVER RADIO.

The plot focuses on three fundamental historical milestones for Plaza Huincul, including the life of the fortinera known as “La Pasto Verde”, the discovery of oil in 1918 and the ancient settlements.

The goal is for the game be used in classrooms to reaffirm the knowledge of the origins of the community and also be able to provide downloadable text material to educators to use in the different educational cycles.

“The game is primarily aimed at children ages 10 to 12. The idea is that they can unravel clues to advance in a historical timeline, overcoming three levels that make up the experience, with an estimated duration of thirty minutes,” said Sol, who is also a member of the community. I SAY.

The team in charge of creating the video game was formed from a call in which professionals were selected as Jimena Mascaroresponsible for narration and script; Marisa Reyespedagogical advisor; Franco Bautista, from sonidis; Fabrizzio Morandi as a game designer and programmer and Nicolas Mendoza as an illustrator. Soledad Cabezas and Laura Crudeli They act as producers of the project.

The development took a stage of training the members of the project in narrative, transmedia and video games. The multidisciplinary team was entirely formed with professionals from Patagonia.

Wikimedia Commons Argentina is a civil association founded in 2007 which depends on the Wikimedia Foundation. It aims at the realization of programs and initiatives that publicize and promote citizen participation in different projects.

The curator of the Culture and Open Knowledge program of Wikimedia Argentina, Angie Cervellera He indicated that the association is in permanent contact with museums, archives, libraries and cultural spaces in the country so that they add knowledge and history to the different available platforms.

”We are working on an innovation program through the “Culture Code” module, where we promote the realization of projects through the use of technologies to revalue cultural heritage and guarantee free and open access to information,” Cervellera highlighted.

The productions generate the intention of continue the search for constant information. “Our intention is to combine all the information engines of the wiki projects through digital proposals that invite us to investigate, add knowledge and tools,” he added.
