Oryon cores will arrive at the end of 2024 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4
Qualcomm first officially announced at the Snapdragon Summit that Oryon cores debuting in the Snapdragon X Elite would be introduced in the mobile segment in 2024, most likely in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. They should then be used in flagships like the Xiaomi 15 or the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra in 2025 and improve the performance/efficiency ratio in particular.
Naturally, the performance of a supposedly reduced mobile processor cannot be directly deduced from that of the 12-core computing monster of the PC sector, whose TDP can reach 80 watts, but the already promised performance of the single-core processor compared to the Apple M2 should be enough to catapult smartphones into a whole new dimension in 2025, especially since Qualcomm still has a year to optimize the Oryon cores for even lower power consumption. One thing’s for sure: the wait might be worth it, especially for performance enthusiasts.
