Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned that modern conflicts target national economies alongside conventional means during the inauguration of the Reserve Bank of India’s Greenfield Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute at Info Valley-2 in Jatni, near Bhubaneswar. Stressing the need to shield the banking sector from cyber threats, the Prime Minister highlighted the imperative to reinforce digital infrastructure as financial access expands across the country.
Inauguration of RBI Facilities in Bhubaneswar
Built at an estimated cost of around 170 crore rupees, the newly inaugurated data centre is engineered to secure critical financial data and raise the resilience of India’s digital financial infrastructure. The facility supports mission-critical systems, including the Reserve Bank’s payment and settlement operations. Operating alongside the data centre, the new Cybersecurity Training Institute will deliver specialized training and promote research in enterprise computing, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum computing. Prime Minister Modi stated that these installations will protect the financial system against emerging threats and secure the technological capabilities of the country’s expanding digital ecosystem.
Expansion of India’s Digital Financial Ecosystem
India’s banking sector stands among the most efficient globally, offering continuous, round-the-clock service access. Nearly 60 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened, accompanied by broader credit, pension, and insurance scheme access. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, present at the inaugural function alongside Odisha Governor Braj Mohan Ram, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Minister Jual Oram, and RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, noted that ongoing digital transformation and financial inclusion continue to strengthen the national economy. She detailed that the RBI facility will support critical financial infrastructure such as the Real-Time Gross Settlement and National Electronic Funds Transfer systems, while the training institute builds specialized expertise in data centre management, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
Regional Growth and Infrastructure Development in Odisha
Emphasizing the Centre’s Purvodaya vision, officials highlighted that the development of eastern India remains vital to overall national progress. Prime Minister Modi noted that Odisha holds the potential to shape its future across varied sectors, from mining to microchips, creating new opportunities for youth. The Prime Minister arrived in Odisha after completing a scheduled visit to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh earlier that day. Expressways now connect smaller towns, while institutions such as AIIMS and new medical colleges expand healthcare access across multiple states, marking milestones for a New India where Bhubaneswar hosts the newly established RBI institution.
