Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged India’s para-athletes to build on their success at the 2026 Asian Para Games and set their sights on maximizing the country’s participation and medal tally at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
Modi’s Vision for LA 2028
The podium at Aichi-Nagoya is not the final stop of your journey.
You must use this success as a launching pad for even greater goals.
The next goal for India and most of you is LA 2028.
A Call for Immediate Preparation
The Prime Minister urged the athletes to celebrate their achievements while immediately turning their focus to future preparations. He connected this message to the upcoming festival of Diwali, encouraging the athletes to celebrate Diwali with great pride, joy, and splendour.
A Broader Sports Ecosystem
Modi framed the goal of Paralympic success within a larger vision for sports in India. We do not view sports merely as a few national and international events.
For us, sports are also a powerful medium for personality development and nation-building,
he said, highlighting how sports teach discipline, team spirit, and resilience. He mentioned specific government initiatives aimed at this vision, including a large number of Khelo India centres
and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS)
to support athletes.
