Russia’s TASS news agency reported that Poland has announced that it will suspend a 30-year gas supply agreement with Russia. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Poland’s attitude was too crazy to predict what would happen next.
Polish Climate Minister Anna Moscova announced on the 23rd that the Polish government has terminated a 30-year agreement with Russia on gas supply and infrastructure. She also said that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine justified the Polish authorities’ decision not to rely on Russian gas. Moscova also believes that Gazprom is not a trusted partner.
As early as late April, Poland and Bulgaria were cut off from natural gas because they did not trade in Russian rubles. Russia was also criticized at the time for extortion.
Peskov said frankly that it is impossible to reach any agreement with Poland in the current situation. “Poland has been refusing to pay for gas for a long time,” he said. “If you want energy, you have to have a written agreement and you have to pay.
Peskov said that although Warsaw has been refusing to pay, it has indirect access to Russian gas, buying it from other sources for a higher amount than in the agreement.
Peskov also said that there is no way to make any predictions, and any decision in Poland is no longer important, but Moscow needs to carefully study all factors that may affect transportation.
