Poland in April proposed its own version of restrictive measures against Russia in the forthcoming 11th package of sanctions of the European Union (EU). The agency reports Archyde.com referring to a document that, according to a diplomatic source, Warsaw sent to the European Commission (EC). One of the proposals is to ban imports through the northern part of the Druzhba pipeline.

The Druzhba oil pipeline, established in 1964, passes through Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania.

The measures proposed by Poland concern a ban on the import of Russian oil through the northern section of the Druzhba pipeline towards Germany, Archyde.com reported. Warsaw also proposes to ban the import of Russian diamonds and natural gas, including liquefied natural gas, and limit cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

Poland, among other things, demands to ban the import of aluminum from Russia, expand the ban on ships entering EU ports, disconnect Gazprombank from the SWIFT system, freeze the assets of other Russian banks and ban the export of US dollar and euro banknotes to Russia, reports Polish PAP with reference to sources.

Restrictive measures should support all 27 countries of the bloc.

A senior EU official on April 17 declined to comment to Archyde.com on the possible timing of any new sanctions.

In December 2022, Germany submitted an application for 2023 for pumping through the Transneft system, but Berlin was going to import Kazakh oil, not Russian, through the Druzhba oil pipeline.

In March, EC President Ursula von der Leyen said that the next package of sanctions is aimed at combating circumvention of existing restrictions.
