Police block export of 19 containers of ferrous material to Congo Brazzaville – news

A team of National Police personnel deployed in the municipality of Cacongo, in Cabinda, prevented the departure, from the Massábi border post, of a considerable amount of ferrous material to the Republic of Congo Brazzaville

The aforementioned ferrous material, seized by the authorities, was packed in 19 containers of 20 and 40 feet, respectively, loaded on 12 trailer trucks, revealed the spokesperson for the Provincial Command of the National Police in Cabinda, quartermaster Marcos Coxito. The senior police officer clarified that the material was seized in compliance with Joint Executive Decree no. 119/21, of May 6, between the Ministries of Industry and Commerce and Culture and Tourism, which establishes the quota of waste to be transferred abroad for reuse, recycling and recovery purposes.

According to Marcos Coxito, the seizure of the material occurred next to the containment post on the Chiloango river, in Lândana, when its owners, through a dubious export operation, intended to get the product to the port of Ponta-Negra, in Congo Brazzaville. The drivers claimed to the police authorities that the material came from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and was destined, through the province of Cabinda, to the region of Ponta-Negra, the economic capital of Congo Brazzaville.

“In view of this finding, we preferred to check this information from the Yema border post where we learned that at no time did the aforementioned trucks cross that post, although the drivers presented documents showing how they complied with customs procedures there.” Also according to this Police source, the owners of the merchandise are not legally licensed to transfer ferrous metal abroad for reuse, recycling and recovery. Marcos Coxito guarantees that the investigative work will continue until all details on the matter are clarified to be sent to the Public Ministry for subsequent procedures.
