Tripunithura ∙ The police, who were waiting in disguise and veiled, finally caught the accused who had circled them. Jitesh (Jithu-21) was arrested at Cheruvelikudi, after escaping from the custody of Hilpalus police in Kumilangad area. The accused was caught from the Kurupanthara railway station at 10 pm on Monday.
The accused ran away from the custody of the police when he was brought to the Vemballil area of Kurilangad for taking evidence in the bike theft case. He is also accused in the case of killing a Pirawat security employee by hitting him with hollow bricks. Police said Jitesh is accused in many vehicle theft cases in Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts.
The accused was nabbed by disguised as inspector wearing purdah, principal SI as laborer, SI as cook of railway station hotel and ASI as autorickshaw driver. After receiving information that the accused would arrive at the Kurupantara railway station, police officers in disguise waited at the station. It was only when the accused Jitesh was surrounded and arrested that the passengers themselves came to know that the people standing nearby were police officers. He decided to change his disguise when he realized that he would not be able to catch the accused who was running very fast.
Jitesh was arrested from Omallur side of Kothanallur in a bike theft case registered at Hillpalas police station. Then the accused was brought to Vembally for evidence. At this time, the accused pushed the police and hid in the nearby forest. Attempts were made to apprehend the accused but failed. The accused who ran away went to his girlfriend’s house in Uzhavoor Kallada Colony and later left the place. After breaking the handcuffs on the railway line with an ax bought from a friend, he ate on the verandah of the nearby church school. Jitesh’s plan was to go to Tamil Nadu with his friend. At night, the police waited at Jitesh’s girlfriend’s house, but Jitesh did not come.
Jitesh called his friend from the passerby’s phone asking him to reach the Kurupanthara railway station and the police reached the railway station with them.
