Pope Francis: “I am saddened by the conflict in Palestine and Israel”

Vatican City – Pope Francis expressed his “sadness” yesterday, Friday, over “the conflict in Palestine and Israel” against the backdrop of the ongoing war between the Hebrew state and the factional movement in Gaza.

A letter written by the 84-year-old Pope and sent to an Arab channel on the occasion of the end of the month of Ramadan, and published by the Vatican, said: “I feel sad because of the conflict between Palestine and Israel.”

He added: “Let the shooting stop immediately in the Gaza Strip, where a humanitarian catastrophe is occurring, and let aid reach the Palestinian population who is suffering horribly, and let the hostages who were kidnapped in October be released.”

In his message, the Pope addressed “the tormented Syria, Lebanon, and the entire Middle East.”

The Pope continued in his message: “Enough, stop!” Please, stop the noise of weapons and think about the children, and about all children as you think about your own children.”

He continued: “They need homes, schools, and gardens, not graves and trenches!”

The Director of the United States Agency for International Development, Samantha Power, informed members of the House of Representatives and the Senate in Congress that the famine had already begun in the areas of northern Gaza, about 6 months after the Israeli war.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza also announced yesterday, Friday, that “the Israeli army committed 8 massacres in the Strip within 24 hours, killing 89 people and wounding 120 others.”

This brings the number of victims of the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip to 33,634 dead and 76,214 wounded since October 7th.

The Israeli army continues to bomb various areas in the Gaza Strip for the 189th day in a row, despite the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.
