Fatima (Portugal) ∙ Pope Francis prayed for peace in Ukraine and the whole world at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. The Pope has repeatedly called for an end to the war in Ukraine.
The Pope, who arrived by helicopter from Lisbon, participated in the prayer of the rosary with the sick and differently-abled inmates here. The Pope spent the whole day in meditation and prayer with thousands of believers who had arrived the night before and gathered in and around the temple. Returning to Lisbon in the evening, the Pope participated in the night vigil as part of the World Catholic Youth Festival. The fair will conclude today with the Pope’s public mass.
The famous pilgrimage shrine of Our Lady of Fatima is the site where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared 6 times in 1917 to the shepherd brothers Francisco and Jacinta and their cousin Lucia. 2 of them were canonized by Pope Francis in 2017.
