Beatification Celebrations in Guatemala and Spain

Alongside preparations for the South American voyage, the Pope highlighted two upcoming beatification ceremonies scheduled for Saturday. In Antigua, Guatemala, the Church will beatify Servant of God Augusto Rafael Ramírez Monasterio, a Franciscan priest killed in 1983 in hatred of the faith. Simultaneously, in Santander, Spain, beatification rites will honor Servants of God Francesco González de Córdova, a diocesan priest, alongside 79 companions including seminarians, priests, and laypeople.

Refalling the Spanish persecutions of the past century, the pontiff noted that these individuals did not hesitate to shed their blood out of love for Christ. He described the new Blesseds as visible members of the great multitude of the Lord’s friends.

Reflecting on Saint Charles Borromeo

During the Wednesday gathering, Pope Leo also marked the liturgical memorial of Saint Charles Borromeo, the distinguished Bishop of the Diocese of Milan. Describing him as a teacher and guide animated by ardent love for the Lord, the Holy Father urged young people, the sick, and newlyweds to follow his example and allow themselves to be led by Christ in their daily lives.
