It is not a stairway to heaven, it is a door to Mars.
An image of what appears to be a hand-carved, symmetrical Martian portal, captured on May 7 by NASA’s Curiosity rover, has ignited a cosmic trove of speculation, conspiracy theories and dreams of intelligent life on the Red Planet.
“If you zoom in completely, you can see Matt Damon crouched inside the door,” pointed Wise man on Reddit.
In fact, “It’s just the space between two fractures in a rock,” said Ashwin Vasavada, a scientist with the Mars Science Laboratory Project. He told the tech site Gizmodo On Friday, he added, “We were walking through an area made up of ancient sand dunes.” These dunes stick together for eons, forming rocky outcrops, while quicksand reveals different images of the planet’s surface over time.
The entrance could have been carved by little Martians: The rock fracture is only a foot high, Vasavada said.
Debbie Downer’s statement did not mitigate the Mars rumors.
“So what if it was just a few inches? How do we know how big our masters would really be?”, a conspiracy theorist Spread and reddit.
I think what we have here [is] Either two vertical fractures, where the center piece was removed, or one vertical fracture, and the blocks moved a little bit further apart,” Vasavada said.
Planetary Gate is the latest in a long line of familiar objects space lovers have seen on Mars. Previous images of his landscapes revealed images of spoons, squirrels, campfires and women in dresses, Gizmodo Reports.
