MADISON, Wis. — Laura Pellicoro crossed the line in 25th-place, making her the Pilot’s first finisher in the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course on Friday morning. Pellicoro would lead the Pilots to a 23rd place finish overall, just ahead of No. 14 North Carolina and No. 26 New Mexico.
In her last 2000 meter split, Pellicoro passed a total of 5 people to break into the top-25. Her overall time was 20:26.3, closing the last 2,000 meters in 6:44, her second fastest of the race. Pellicoro was followed by Freshman Fleur Templier in 95th (21:00.6), Courtney Klatt in 108th (21:07.5), Maebh Richardson in 143rd (21:30.0) and Janelle Avilez in 161st (21:38.6) to round out the scoring-five.
The Pilots also saw performances from Mie Nielsen in 166th (21:41.3), Sam Prusse in 197th (22:02.9) and Teresa Perez in 222nd (22:25.0).
Freshman Fleur Templier passed the most athletes during both the middle split and the last split of the race, totaling 28 and 17, respectively. Her race played out in a conservative fashion, going out comfortably near 140th before moving up gradually throughout each section of the race to help secure her 95th place finish.
Both teams will race again tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 14 at the George Oja Linfield Invitational in Liberty, Ore. The women’s 6K is set for a 10 a.m. start. For more coverage and info, visit PortlandPilots.com.
