PP criticises Zapatero for serving as an observer in Venezuelan elections

This Monday, the spokesperson for the Popular Party (PP) in the European Parliament, Sorrows Montserratcriticized former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero for his role during the presidential elections in Venezuela.

The PP spokesperson urged a quick statement from Pedro Sánchez’s governmentwhose silence, he said, makes him “complicit in the fraud” in the country by not protesting the former president’s visit.

“The government’s silence this week makes it complicit in electoral fraud”said Montserrat during a press conference at the PP facilities, adding that “The Sánchez government must take a position and clarify whether it is on the side of the Maduro regime or on the side of democracy and democrats”.

At the regional level, he stressed that The European People’s Party will make a formal request next September for a resolution to be generated from the European Parliament so that the European Parliament recognises Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia as the winner of the elections in Venezuela.

This position, in the opinion of the Spanish political party, will serve “to continue to defend from Europe a clear and transparent message in defence of democratic values”.
