Pratap Pothan was born in 1952 in Thiruvananthapuram. Haripothan is the elder brother. Studied at Lawrence School, Ooty. Later from Madras Christian College B.A. Graduated in Economics.
Prathap, who was an actor in Madras Players, was seen by Bharathan and invited him to act in his film Aaravam. Later he also acted in films like Takara, Chamaram and Loari. Prathap’s acting in the films Neshethe Killate, Panneer Pushpanam and Varumain Kurar Sivapu made him famous in Tamil as well. K. The most memorable of these was Prathap’s performance in Balachander’s film Varumain Koor Sivapu.

Pratap Pothan married actress Radhika in 1985. However, their marriage did not last long and they got divorced in 1986. He then remarried Amala Satyanath, a senior corporate professional, in 1990. The couple has a daughter, Keya, born in 1991. This marriage also ended in 2012 after 22 years.
Pratap Pothan became active in Malayalam cinema in 2005 after a gap. That return was through the molecule. Later, 22 Female Kottayam, Aayal and Namim Kemku, The Story of Six Beauties, Idukki Gold and Bangalore Days gave us a handful of memorable characters. Mohanlal’s upcoming film is Burrows.
