Premier League: Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool celebrate victory against Leicester | Sports

First they had no luck, and then bad luck came along…

Jürgen Klopp (55) and Liverpool FC win their last game of 2022 2-1 against Leicester. The “Reds” thus reduce the gap to the top 4 to just two points after the 2019 Champions League winners won the last four league games.

But none of the Klopp players played a major role in the win against Leicester. On the contrary: The match winner of the “Reds” wears a blue jersey that evening, plays for the opponent and goes by the name of Wout Faes (24)!

But one after anonther.

Liverpool misses the start completely and is already behind after four minutes. After that comes little. In the 38th minute, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (24) didn’t know what to do other than hit a cross into the opponent’s penalty area at random. And suddenly it’s 1:1!

Leicester defender Faes tries to clear the cross but hits the ball miserably and the ball flies into the goal in an arc lamp. The spectators, among whom is newcomer Cody Gakpo (23/comes from Eindhoven), shouldn’t have cared. There is frenetic cheering in Anfield Stadium.

But it gets even crazier! Shortly before the half-time whistle, in the 45th minute, Liverpool turned the game around – and the “Reds” played almost no part in that! Again it is Faes who scores. Back into your own goal. The Belgian, who only joined Leicester in the summer, tries to clear a post rebound in front of the onrushing Mohamed Salah (30), but scores again in his own box.

Curious: At that time, Liverpool had only shot once at the opposing goal. Darwin Núñez (23) hit the ball against the post, from where Faes then “cleared” it into his own goal.

In the second half, Liverpool struggled and had several good chances – but only the Foxes scored that day.
