This donation, worth $4 million, kicks off the effort to protect the entire woodland. Thus, Capitale Nature will work over the coming months with the City of Quebec to hand over the land to them while guaranteeing its protection in perpetuity.

“Ecological donation through conservation organizations is an essential tool for the protection of natural environments, but still too little known in the Capitale-Nationale region. We hope that the donation of the Neilson woodland will be able to serve as an example for other owners and developers who want to preserve the natural qualities of their land, and have a positive impact in maintaining biodiversity in their environment. via press release David Viens, president of Capitale Nature.

Capitale Nature wanted to salute this significant gesture by GM Développement, as well as the hard work of the citizens involved in the grouping of Ami·e·s du boisé Neilson, whose mobilization was essential to achieving this objective.

Finally, the organization underlines the desire of the City of Quebec to realize this dream of protecting the Neilson woodland, thereby contributing to the achievement of the conservation objectives set at COP15, namely to protect 30% of the territory at within the urbanization perimeter by 2030.
