However, sources from the Foreign Ministry told El Comercio that “the time and date” of said meeting has not yet been confirmed. Questions

In dialogue with El Comercio, congressmen from Renovación Popular, Acción Popular, Perú Libre and Cambio Democratico questioned the lack of transparency of the Executive Branch regarding the trip.

For Luis Aragón (Popular Action), the Legislative Branch “should not have authorized said trip” or “at least set conditions.” “There is no political control,” he said regarding the fact that the list of the president’s companions was not known.

In his opinion, the authorization of Boluarte responds to “an alliance between the Executive and the Board of Directors.”

José Cueto, legislator from Renovación Popular, also questioned the lack of transparency of the Executive. “That’s why I don’t agree with that trip,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ruth Luque stated that “those who validated” the president’s departure from the country must “answer for the abuses that Mrs. Boluarte commits.” Likewise, she highlighted her position against “the law that authorizes virtual government” for being “unconstitutional.”

On the other hand, the spokesperson for Peru Libre, Margot Palacios, also criticized Boluarte’s trip within the framework of the arrival of the El Niño Phenomenon. Likewise, she recalled that her group is promoting a vacancy motion against the president due to her departures abroad. “I doubt that her departure will bring greater investment because Peruvian residents abroad have always expressed themselves against her due to the massacres in which several Peruvians died,” she said.

“They do not detail the budget they are spending on this and all of the trips. Nor has she said who is accompanying her. It is more than a million that has cost Boluarte her last three trips. To date, what results have her trips brought us? ”She questioned.

Postures

Former Vice Chancellor Eduardo Ponce Vivanco considered that the president’s trips are not being given an adequate focus, “in the sense that it is taken as a political demerit or an unnecessary expense that Mrs. Boluarte undertakes trips abroad, despite the fact that “She is the president of the Republic.”

For Ponce Vivanco, this journey “is definitely more important” than the others that the president has made. For example, in comparison to her trip to Europe, in her opinion, she “was not well prepared.” “The interview with Pope Francis was very poor and he went to see the president of Germany, who has protocol functions,” she stressed.

“Regardless of her political background, she is the head of state, and as such she is invited to these trips. This invitation from APEP, which has been in existence for a year, responds to an initiative by President Biden, an initiative in which Peru participated with other countries such as Ecuador, Colombia, etc. […] Presidential trips are more positive than negative,” he noted.

“Not going would mean disrespecting the host, who is the president of the United States.” […] “I see no way to justify the criticism of this trip,” he added.

The specialist in International Law Gattas Abugattas also criticized the questioning of the president’s trip.

“From what I understand, the meetings that Boluarte will hold are at a very high level, including the president and representatives of the US Congress, so, without a doubt, it is an important trip. […] Each of the activities has an objective, especially in the context of the recession and any negotiation in which the president can participate to get out of this situation is good,” he said.

On the other hand, Abugattas questioned the fact that precise details were not given about Boluarte’s meeting with President Biden. The internationalist estimated that the date and time of the meeting between Boluarte and Biden has probably not been specified because the “Israel – Hamas” conflict complicates the agendas of the US president and his peers from other nations.

“It is not something that should be of much concern as long as the meeting takes place,” he said.

Abugattas stressed that “at this point” the Government should have made the expenses and the delegation that will accompany the president transparent. “This is public information, which should be available to everyone, there is no reason to excuse the Presidency from providing information that, by law, it must provide,” he stressed.

On the other hand, the internationalist Francisco Belaunde “beyond the questions that may arise against the Boluarte government”, Peru is part of the APEP and is an “ally” of the US.

She also said that it seems that the president seeks to “appear in photos with world leaders to appear that they accept her.” For her, “it is very important to cleanse her image because it has a stain due to the number of deaths in the protests.”

Belaunde also considered that this trip is “more important” than the rest of the trips that the president has previously made.

“The trip to Europe was completely unnecessary in many ways. It makes no sense for him to say that he wanted to bring investments, especially because he knew that he had other trips nearby. […] Looks [a ojos de la opinión pública] that there were too many trips,” he said.

Belaunde also expressed surprise that the date and time of the meeting with Biden has not been confirmed. “It brings to mind what happened with the pope and at the United Nations, who took a photo with Biden and in the end it was just a greeting,” he said.

The specialist does not see a “meaning” to the possible meeting with Biden because it will be something “very protocol.”
