The president of the Dendermonde court of first instance, seized for summary proceedings following a unilateral request from Conner Rousseau, prohibited the publication by the VTM channel and the newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws of an article on alleged racist statements by the president Flemish socialists. The request, revealed by DPG Media, parent company of the two bodies concerned, was confirmed to the Belga agency.
The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office revealed last week that an investigation was underway into statements made by Conner Rousseau against police officers. “I actually went to a café in Saint-Nicolas that day and spoke with police officers. I had drunk too much, but in my memory, these exchanges were friendly and humorous,” defended the president of Vooruit.
VTM and HLN indicate that they had prepared a report on the subject, which included passages from the report drawn up against Conner Rousseau on the night of September 1 to 2. The politician, among the most popular in Flanders, then went to court to have its publication banned.
