Exchange on bilateral relations and Russian war of aggression against Ukraine
Vienna (PK) – As part of his inaugural visit to Austria, the new President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, met the President of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, for talks in Parliament on Thursday. Sobotka addressed the bilateral relations, the exchange between Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia within the framework of the Austerlitz format and the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
The Czech Republic is not only an excellent neighbor but also a key partner at European level, Sobotka emphasized at the beginning. The Czech Republic and Austria have also always been closely connected at the economic level. The two neighbors are also closely connected in the areas of culture, sport and civil society. Sobotka and Pavel agreed that it was increasingly successful here in bringing people from both sides together and overcoming borders. This also requires a better expansion of the infrastructure connections between the states, both said. It is also important to support the Czech minorities in Austria. This is a personal concern for him, explained Sobotka.
The President of the National Council also emphasized that he greatly appreciates the cooperation between the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria in the Austerlitz format. It strengthens the collaboration and cooperation between the three neighboring countries. With this in mind, Sobotka announced that he would travel to Georgia with his Czech and Slovak counterparts next week. Sobotka asked Pavel about his assessment of the danger of the Russian war of aggression spreading towards Georgia and the possible consequences of the Ukrainian counter-offensive. Both interlocutors agreed that it is important to keep supporting Ukraine.
